In a small workshop on a ranch in Tumalo, central Oregon, Robert Seliger carefully crafts a hundred custom pieces of furniture each year. During his early career Seliger met two artists who changed his vision forever- American furniture icon Sam Maloof, who taught Seliger in furniture making workshops, and Cristo, the world renowned creator of large-scale environmental art installations. Today Seliger works without nails or screws on the bulk of his projects-tables, chairs, armoires, beds, and buffets- which frequently combine graceful curves, carvings, and traditional joinery techniques. The surrounding environment with magnificent views of the Cascades fuels his imagine and that of his wife Kathy, an artist who does a great deal of the finishing work for the furniture.
