Although born in New Orleans, and later trained at Tulane and the Mayo Clinic, due to a childhood illness Jim spent his early years in Arizona; this instilled in him a love of western history, lore, and environment.
Following a career in cardiac surgery, Jim was drawn back to the West and now spends half of his year in Wyoming. There, and at his Shreveport gallery, he transforms his artistic and creative inspiration into making furnishings, which embody the essence of the old West, using handtooled leather and animal hides, and the techniques of fine saddlemakers. Besides oil painting and sculpting, Jim revels in making one-of-a-kind pieces of functional art combining antique western artifacts with leather.
